ADHO Announces New SIG, Interactive Digital Narratives (SIG_IDN)

The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) is pleased to announce the formation of the Special Interest Group for Interactive Digital Narratives (SIG_IDN). The new SIG brings together scholars, artists, designers, technologists, and creative practitioners working on interactive and computationally mediated forms of storytelling.

Interactive Digital Narratives encompass works in which computation, interface, and user participation shape the production, sequencing, performance, and interpretation of narrative experience. These include electronic literature, digital storytelling, interactive documentary, narrative games, locative and pervasive storytelling, XR and VR environments, multilinear and database narratives, computational narrative, and AI-mediated storytelling.

SIG_IDN serves as a new community to bring together work across disciplinary boundaries, institutional contexts, and technical traditions relating to:

  • electronic literature,
  • digital fiction,
  • interactive documentary,
  • narrative games,
  • locative and pervasive storytelling,
  • XR/VR narrative environments, and more
