ADHO Communications Officer / Deputy Communications Officer (2025)

Overview: The Communications Officer and Deputy Communications Officer are responsible for overseeing the development and effectiveness of ADHO’s public presence. These positions involve editorial oversight and responsibility for updates to the ADHO website, newsletter, and social media. 

Purpose: The Communications Officer and Deputy Communications Officer manage ADHO’s public communications platforms and initiatives and are responsible for ADHO’s public presence. They coordinate ADHO’s communications activities and collaborate with ADHO officers to create and deliver content about ADHO business and the annual Digital Humanities conference. They also ensure ADHO’s effective participation in public communications via social media, newsletter and email lists, the ADHO website, and other means as deemed appropriate. The Communications Officer and Deputy Communications Officer are members of ADHO’s Executive Board.

Term: The Communications Officer term is three years and may be renewed. The first year of the three-year term is in the role of Deputy Communications Officer. During the last year of the Communications Officer’s term, a new Deputy Communications Officer is appointed to ease workload and facilitate transition. The Deputy Officer moves into the Communications Officer post when the current Communications Officer’s terms ends.

Responsibilities:

  • To maintain an effective public image for ADHO
  • To develop active strategies for strong communication between ADHO and the larger DH world, and for increasing the visibility of all of ADHO’s publications, awards, SIGs and other activities
  • To take initiative in creating opportunities for public statements (e.g. press releases, etc.) about ADHO activities
  • To work closely and actively with the various committee chairs and officers to ensure coordinated communication about ADHO activities taking place within their committees
  • To ensure that information about ADHO news and publicity are published on the ADHO website in a timely way
  • To gather information for, compile, and disseminate the quarterly ADHO Newsletter
  • To ensure ADHO’s visibility and timely responsiveness on social media
  • Attend fortnightly, online Executive Board meetings throughout the year
  • Remain in regular communication contact with ADHO leadership through email and the ADHO Mattermost channel
